Valentia Island King Scallop Festival
Venue: Knightstown, Valentia Island
If you love scrumptious food and beautiful secluded scenery, then you are in for a treat at the Valentia Island King Scallop Festival in July.
The Valentia Island Kind Scallop Festival, now in its 6th year, promises visitors scrumptious food in beautiful secluded scenery.
Entertainment will include live music, busking, fishing and sports competitions. A number of family oriented events will take place such as face painting, scallop-shell painting and a kid's duathlon. Of course, there will be plenty of stalls offering freshly cooked scallops for you to sample and the highlight of the festival is the crowing of Mr King Scallop 2017. This competition aims to find the most talented scallop chef in Valentia and the winner is crowned on the Sunday evening.
Valentia Island is a small island ensuring an intimate and relaxing event.
Cahersiveen Festival of Music & the Arts
The Cahersiveen Festival of Music & the Arts has grown from strength to strength and has become one of the top festivals in the country.
Highlights of the festival are the performances by live bands each night on the main street with every genre from rock to country being represented. Children can enjoy street entertainment, fancy dress, a mini motor parade, children's Olympics and much more.
Take a historical walk or a sing-a-long loop walk on Saturday and Sunday morning; see the monster busking competition for junior and seniors with big prize money, held on Saturday; or dance your cares away at the open air céilí.
A festival wristband costs €10 for adults or €5 for children. The wristband allows you freedom to all events over the weekend.
Puck Fair is one of Ireland's most unusual street festivals - a wild mountain goat is crowned King of the town for three days and nights. Come along for twelve hours of free fun and family events each day.
King Puck is crowned in the afternoon by the Queen of Puck, traditionally a local schoolgirl, after a coronation parade brings him through the town to the Puck Stand. He rules over the town until his dethronement on the final day when he is taken back to the mountains.
Other events include a Horse Fair, a Cattle Fair, and a fireworks display. See street entertainers, and enjoy music and circus workshops, puppet shows, pipe band recitals, music and dance on both stages and open air night-time concerts. Birds Euroshow provides a colourful, fun spectacle every year and stalls line the main streets advertising their wares; and a craft fair takes place at the top of the town, where you can sit down, listen to the music and just watch it all happen!
All events are free.
